After installing the April 2022 updates on Windows 11 [KB5012592] and Windows 10 [KB5012599], users reported that browsers like Chrome, Edge, and Firefox are crashing with a 0xc000022 error message. The exact error message reads:
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application”.
As reported by users on Feedback Hub, a dialog with error code 0xc0000022 appear when they’re trying to launch msedge.exe, Chrome.exe, and Firefox.exe or you can say when trying to launch these browsers.
Those users who’re using Vivaldi and Brave as default browsers are not affected by this issue after installing the same update.
Microsoft mentioned that there’s no other error or issue reported by another group of users after installing the Windows April Update [KB5012592], except for the users who are unable to launch the browser listed above.
So what causes the error message to appear? Some users think that issues occur due to the latest Windows 11 and Windows 10 cumulative updates, but the exact reason is compatibility between Windows and Antivirus programs like ESET.
