Windows 10 users report a blue screen of death (BSOD) caused by the file CSAgent.sys. Their PCs are getting stuck at the recovery screen with a message that reads:
It looks like Windows didn’t load correctly. If you would like to restart and try again, choose ‘Restart my PC’ below.”
This issue affects various institutions, including schools, media houses, tech companies, and education centers. Both Microsoft and CrowdStrike are working on fixing this issue. In the meantime, here’s a quick workaround you can use until an official patch is released.
Below in this blog post, I’ll share with you a solution to fix this issue.
Fix – Windows 10 BSOD CSAgen.sys Stuck at Recovery
From the recovery screen, boot your PC in safe mode. (I’ve created a step-by-step tutorial on how to do this. )
Once in safe mode, launch File Explorer and go to the following location: C:\Windows\System32\drivers
Find the folder named “CrowdStrike” and rename it to something like “CrowdStrike.old“.
Close everything and restart your computer to exit safe mode. This time, you should be able to log into your PC without any BSOD.
Alternative Method:
Follow the method discussed above to boot into safe mode.
Open the Registry Editor and navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CSAgent
On the right side, locate the entry named “Start“, double-click on it, and set the value data to 4. Click OK.
Setting the value data to 4 will disable the service and resolve the issue. Restart your computer to exit safe mode. This time, you should be able to log into your PC without any BSOD.
Let me know in the comments if this helps you fix the issue.
