Microsoft has already integrated AI in some of its apps including Notepad and Edge, and now it’s time for the Photos app. The Photos app on Windows, which is the default application to view and manage photos on your computer, is getting a new Copilot plugin.
What’s the requirement to use this plugin in the Photos app, and do you really need it? Here’s everything you need to know.
What are the requirements for using the Copilot Plugin with the Photos app??
The only requirement to use the Copilot Plugin on the Photos app is that you need to have version 2024.11030.22001.0. or later of the Microsoft Photos app installed. You can check the app version by opening the Photos app, clicking the gear icon, and then under the About section, you will see the app version listed.
If you have the required app version, then all you have to do is enable the Copilot plugin. To do this, simply click the Copilot icon in the taskbar, choose the Plugins option, and enable the toggle for Microsoft Photos.
After enabling the toggle, you will see the Copilot option in the Photos app.
Do you really need Copilot in the Photos app?
The Copilot plugin will help you in creating/viewing slideshows and setting the background of your Windows computer. But the question here arises — do you really need Copilot for such tasks?
This question is important because setting up backgrounds and creating slideshows are among the easiest tasks on a Windows computer, and you can do them within a few clicks. There might be a possibility that Microsoft brings up another use case for the Copilot plugin in the Photos app in the future, but as of now, we really don’t think this plugin has any such significant use case.
Along with adding the Copilot plugin, the mentioned version of the Photos app has an updated section in its settings menu. You now have the option to add your Microsoft account so that you can access images that are available in your OneDrive account.
What do you think about Microsoft integrating AI into its built-in apps? Will you be using the Copilot plugin in the Photos app? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
