Is the Copilot window automatically opening every time you boot up your Windows 11 computer? This issue has been reported by users on Windows 11 Insider Build 26100.
It’s no surprise that Microsoft is heavily pushing Copilot into Windows. But this time, it’s not any feature rollout but in fact it’s a bug!
Yes, you read that right, Microsoft is not rolling out any feature in Canary and Dev Channels that automatically launches Copilot upon startup. This has been confirmed by Brandon LeBlanc, Senior Program Manager on the Microsoft Insider Team.
He also mentioned that the team has added this issue in the blog post for build 26100 and they are actively working on fixing it.
This isn’t the first time that the Copilot has been launching automatically on startup…
The news of the copilot automatically starting on all launches escalated quickly because this is not the first time this has occurred on Windows Insider channels. In February 2024, Microsoft was testing a feature in the Insider channels that used to automatically launch Copilot on system startup.
This feature was only accessible to users who had widescreen devices with a minimum diagonal screen size of 27″ and pixel width of 1920 pixels. You also had the option to manage this setting manually via Settings > Personalization > Copilot.
However, Microsoft stopped testing this feature in March.
So, all the reports that say Microsoft is again testing out this feature are false, at least for now. If the Copilot window is opening automatically on your computer on system startup, don’t worry, it’s simply a bug that Microsoft is currently trying to fix. It’s not any feature rollout.
