Are you ready to say goodbye to Facebook? Whether you are concerned about privacy or just tired of the noise, deleting your account is the only way to ensure your data is gone for good.
However, Facebook doesn’t make it easy to find the “Delete” button. They often push you to “Deactivate” instead, which only hides your profile temporarily. Deleting is permanent—it wipes your photos, friends list, and posts forever.
In this video, I will show you the updated method to permanently delete your Facebook account using the mobile app.
Important: Read Before You Delete
Once you confirm deletion, there is no going back after the grace period.
- You will lose everything: Your photos, videos, and Messenger history will be permanently removed.
- Linked Accounts: If you use Facebook to log in to other apps (like Spotify or Pinterest), you will lose access to those accounts.
- Download Your Info: I strongly recommend using the “Download Your Information” tool in settings to save a copy of your photos before you proceed.
Step-by-Step Guide (Mobile App)
Step 1: Access the Accounts Center
- Open the Facebook app on your phone.
- Tap the Menu (three horizontal lines) in the bottom right (iPhone) or top right (Android).
- Scroll down and tap Settings & privacy, then select Settings.
- Tap on the box at the very top that says “See more in Accounts Center”.
Step 2: Find Account Ownership
- Under the “Account settings” section, tap Personal details.
- Select Account ownership and control.
Step 3: Choose Deletion
- Tap Deactivation or deletion.
- Select your Facebook profile.
- Crucial Step: Facebook selects “Deactivate” by default. You must change the selection to Delete account (the bottom option).
- Tap Continue.
Step 4: Final Confirmation
- You may be asked to choose a reason for leaving (you can skip this).
- Review the final warning about Messenger and data. Tap Continue.
- Enter your Password for security.
- Tap the blue button: Delete Account.
The 30-Day “Cool Down” Period
After you tap delete, your account is not gone immediately. Facebook gives you a 30-day grace period.
- If you log in within these 30 days, the deletion is cancelled, and your account is restored.
- After 30 days, the process begins, and your data is permanently scrubbed from their servers.
Conclusion
Navigating the new Accounts Center can be confusing, but once you know the path, deleting your account takes less than 2 minutes.
