Microsoft continues to test new features in its native browser, Microsoft Edge, with the goal of developing features that will help you in various situations. It wasn’t too long ago when they were testing a feature that lets you control how much RAM Microsoft Edge consumes. Now, they are testing a new feature that will suggest content that may interest you in Edge PWAs.
Microsoft Edge comes with a feature that allows you to install certain websites as apps on your computer. These apps are known as PWAs (Progressive Web Apps). For instance, you can install YouTube PWA through Microsoft Edge. With the new feature that Microsoft is testing, Edge will suggest content that you may wish to search while using these PWAs.
For instance, if you are viewing content related to environmental changes in the YouTube PWA, the Search Suggestions feature may suggest searching for “environment” in the side panel.
This feature is currently in testing and not available to everyone. It’ll be fascinating to see how relevant these suggestions are as per the content you’re actually searching in Edge PWA.
Also, it will be fascinating to see with which PWAs this feature will exactly work. This is because you can install a PWA of almost all websites. For instance, you can install a PWA of our website GeekerMag. So, it will be interesting to see if the Search Suggestions feature will work on such a PWA or it will only work on certain PWAs like YouTube.
It seems like Microsoft is aware that this change won’t be welcomed by most users. That’s why they’ve given the option to disable it. If you have access to this feature, you can disable it by opening Edge, clicking the three dots, and then navigating to Apps > View apps > Manage apps. After that, click the Details option for the PWA for which you want to disable the Search Suggestions feature. Then, turn off the toggle next to Search Suggestions.
Again, this feature is currently in a testin phase, and there’s a possibility that Microsoft decides not to release it in the stable version of Microsoft Edge.
Thanks Leopeva64 for this discovery.
