Microsoft released Windows 11 24H2 update (26100.712) in the release preview channel last month with lots of new features and changes. However, the update is generating a lot of buzz not because of its features, but because of a bug it contains.
Many users have reported encountering a PcaSvc.dll error dialog after updating to this Windows 11 24H2 build. One user on Reddit even posted about facing this issue after updating their Windows computer.
There have also been many reports of users encountering this problem on the Microsoft Community forum.
The error reads:
Error in C:\WINDOWS\system32\PcaSvc.dll
Missing entry: PcaWallpaperAppDetect
The cause of this error is unknown, but Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and suggested a workaround that can help get rid of it. Here’s how to fix the error:
Open the Start menu, search for Task Scheduler, and open it. Then, expand Task Scheduler Library in the left sidebar.
Head towards Microsoft > Windows > Application Experience.
Right-click the PcaWallpaperAppDetect task and select Delete. Then, click Yes to confirm your decision.
After that, restart your computer and the error message should no longer appear. This is the only known workaround for this issue at present. Microsoft will most likely fix this issue in the next update for 24H2.
