Do you remember live tiles that used to appear on Windows 10? However, Microsoft killed them in 2021 when announcing Windows 11. Well, it seems like Microsoft is re-introducing live tiles in Windows 11.
Microsoft recently released Windows 11 Canary build 26212 that features this change and it is available by the name — Start Menu Companions. This appear next to the Start Menu in a floating window, and similar to widgets, you will see information such as weather reports, market updates and more on them.
You can keep the Companion floating panel on your preferred side. This means, you can either keep it on the right side of the Start menu or on its left.
The best part is that you can choose whether you want to have the Start Menu Companion or not. If you don’t like it, you can disable it by going to the Settings app > Personalization > Start and then disabling the Start Companion toggle.
Microsoft has not yet announced anything about this feature. Also, not all the features that are tested in the Canary build are made available in the Windows stable version. Therefore, please take this information with a grain of salt, as it may or may not come to the Windows 11 stable version.
Thanks Albacore for the lead.
