Microsoft is internally testing a new option in the start menu in Windows 11 which allows you to show or hide recommended tips, new apps, shortcuts, and even more.
Right now, the new start menu option is under development and disabled out of the box in Windows 11 build 25903 in the dev channel.
In case, you’re running the same Windows 11 build and would like to enable it, then it’s possible using a third-party app named vivetool. Below in this post, let’s learn how to do that.
Before you start following the steps, you need to keep a few things in mind:
- The steps discussed below will add the new option in Start settings, and it’s not working yet.
- It’s an experimental feature and there’s no guarantee that the same feature will be made up to Windows 11 OS.
- The feature is under development and unstable.
- To enable this feature, we’re going to use a third-party program.
- These features are highly experimental, so we recommend users try them on virtual machines and secondary PCs

Enable “Show Recommendations for Tips, Shortcuts, New Apps” in Windows 11
Download and set up ViveTool on your Windows 11 PC.
Launch the Command prompt with admin rights. For that, click on the Search icon and type CMD, when it Command prompt appears in the search results click to open it.
Here, you need to copy-paste this command: c:\vivetool\vivetool.exe /enable /id:42916428
and hit enter.
Once you get the message successfully set feature configuration, you need to reboot your computer to apply the changes.
To access the new option in the Start menu, you need to go to Settings > Personalization > Start. Here, you will find a “Show Recommendations for Tips, Shortcuts, New Apps“, turn it ON or OFF, depending on your preference.
Right now, turning ON or OFF this setting does nothing, at least for me.
You can restore the changes, by executing this command: c:\vivetool\vivetool.exe /disable /id:42916428
