Starting with Microsoft Edge in Canary channel v86.0.593.0, the company has officially enabled Tab Preview feature. The feature was already available in the Edge Canary for a long time but was incomplete.
One of Microsoft Software Engineer who’s working on Microsoft Edge shared this information via tweet that, they have now enabled Tab Previews in Microsoft Edge. There are two flags associated with Tab Preview feature which include: Tab Hover Cards and Tab Hover Card Images.
Tab Preview feature when enable show a popup containing tab information accompanied by preview image when hover on the tab. The information contains a full-page title and URL in the tab hover cards. This will replace tooltips for tabs. The Tab Preview feature is already available in Chrome.
How to Enable Tab Previews in Edge
In case, you’re using Microsoft Edge as a default web browser, and would like to try Tab Thumbnail preview feature, then here’s how you can enable it:
Make sure, you’re using the latest version of Microsoft Edge Canary.
Using the drop-down for Tab Hover Cards and Tab Hover Card Images, change the settings from Default to Enabled.
To apply the changes, click on the Restart button.
At this point, you have successfully enabled the Tab Preview feature in the Edge browser. To start using it, open multiple websites in different tabs. After that, hover the cursor on the other tabs and not on the active tab. You should be seeing tab preview that image, website title, and link.
