Some users are experiencing an issue where Microsoft Edge 105 fails to open or launch after the latest update that brings version v105.0.1343.27.
So what is causing the Edge 105 to open? There is an old policy “MetricsReportingEnabled” that has been replaced. However, the entry itself was not deleted from the registry. As a result, it clashes with updated registries due to this reason Edge browser won’t open.
Microsoft Edge team is aware of the Edge 105 startup issue and has already mentioned that the solution will be released in the update coming next week.
Microsoft Edge 105 Fails to Open After Last Update
In the meantime, you can fix the Edge won’t start issue with the help of a simple workaround that consists of deleting the problematic policy. Here’s what you need to do:
Click on the Search icon available on the Taskbar, and type Regedit. When Registry Editor appears in the results, click to open.
In the Registry Editor, you need to go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
,
and here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
In both cases, you need to locate a DWORD Value named MetricsReportingEnabled, right-click on it, and Delete it.
After that, close the Registry Editor and try to launch the Edge browser. This time Edge browser should open.
