    Microsoft recently confirmed that the new Edge browser, Chromium-based will be distributed to all devices running Windows 10 April 2018 Update version 1809 (Redstones 4) or above.

    Microsoft Edge Chromium stable version is already available for download. The company recently confirmed that the Chromium-based Edge browser, replacing the classic Edge browser (EdgeHTML) by automatically importing preferences and settings.

    Once the replacement process completes, users will no longer able to launch the Classic Edge browser. In case, you’re a fan of the current Edge browser and don’t like the idea of the company replacing the EdgeHTML with Edge Chromium at the beginning of 2020.

    To help users with this, the company provided a script in the form of solution named Blocker Toolkit.     But there’s a problem with this script, it will not prevent users from installing Microsoft Chromium Edge from internet download or from external media.

    In case, you want to manage this phenomenon manually, then, fortunately, it is also possible using a quick registry hack. Here’s what you need to do:

    1. Launch Registry Editor. For that, search ‘Regedit‘ in the Start menu search bar.

    2. Next, you need to head over to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate to the following key.

    Note – In case, EdgeUpdate key is missing, then you need to create it manually. For that right-click on Microsoft and select New and then name it EdgeUpdate.

    3. Now on the right side, you need to modify or create a new 32-bit DWORD value. For that, right-click and from the menu select New > DWORD (32-BIT) Value.

    Edge Update value data DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium

    You need to name the value: DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium, double click on it and set its Value data to 1. This will block the delivery of Edge Chromium.

    In case, you want to undo this, then you can set its value data to 0 or delete it.
