Microsoft was working on developing AV1 Video Extension for Windows 10. The app was under development for a long time. Starting today, the company has released AV1 Codec app for Windows 10 which is available for download in the Microsoft Store

AV1 Video Extension app you can play videos encoded with AV1 in your favorite video app on your Windows 10 device. This extension helps video apps installed on Windows 10 play videos that have been encoded using the AV1 video coding standard developed by the Alliance for Open Media.

- Download AV1 Video Extension from Microsoft Store.
- Once installation completes, you don’t have to perform additional steps. After installing AV1 Codec extension you will be able to play video encoded by AV1 coded using default Movies & TV app or in Classic Edge browser.
At any point, if you want to want to remove playback codec, then here’s how you can do that:
Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features. Here scroll down to AV1 Video Extension and then click on the Uninstall button.
