Recently, Microsoft figures out the cause of high battery consumption during streaming media playback in Chromium-based browsers. After doing various tests related to the issue, the company added a new experimental feature “Turn off caching of streaming media to disk ” in the latest version of Chromium Edge in Canary channel version 78.0.256.0 or later.

Previously the same experimental feature was released by the Google for their Chrome browsing facing the same issue.

If you want to try the improvement implemented by the Microsoft in Chromium Edge, then here’s what you need to do:

1. Update to the latest version of Chromium Edge in Canary Channel.

2. Visit the following address: edge://flags/#turn-off-streaming-media-caching and look for highlighted experimental feature with the name “Turn off caching of streaming media to disk.”

3. Using the drop-down change the settings from Default to Enabled.

4. Click on the Restart button to apply the changes.
